Editorial policy
This page describes how we research, write and review the articles published on Tool Guide. It also sets out the disclaimers that apply to our content.
Independence
Tool Guide is entirely independent. We are not affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer or trade body. We do not accept payment for coverage, we do not participate in affiliate programmes, and we do not run advertising on the site. Where a brand name is mentioned in an article, it is either used to illustrate a wider point or to identify a category of tool; it is never a paid placement.
How we research
Every article begins with a review of the relevant manufacturer technical documentation, published engineering literature and, where applicable, established safety standards. We supplement this with hands-on experience of the tools discussed and, for specialist topics, informal input from tradespeople and hobbyists we know.
How we write
Our articles are written by the Tool Guide editorial team in British English. We aim for a plain, unhurried style that a reader with no technical background can follow. Where we use a technical term we define it. Where we quote a number, we describe what it measures and why it matters.
Review and corrections
Every article is read by a second person before publication and checked for factual accuracy, clarity and safety implications. If we later discover a mistake, we correct the article and note the change at the foot of the page. If you spot an error, please email hello@toolguide.shop.
